This regulation is Reg. 854.\r\n\r\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ontario.ca\/laws\/regulation\/900854\">Regulation 854<\/a> applies to mines, mining plants and quarries.\r\n\r\nSand pits, gravel pits, many of the stone and limestone pits around Ontario share this distinction.\r\n\r\nSo when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadabuildingmaterials.com\/en-ca\/Pages\/Company\/ready-mix-locations.aspx\">CBM\u00a0 in <\/a>Vementos, Ontario, had safety concerns several years ago, they called us to ask if we would write a report on the condition of walkways and stairs and ramps and ladders.\r\n\r\nWe also did reports on stackers and conveyors. Guarding has also been another topic for our reports.\r\n\r\nAnother one of our reports focused on structure and the highlighting of issues and repairs to be completed.\r\n\r\nThat was 50 reports ago. We have created a system of field notes, site pictures and final Engineer and Safety Report formats that are to the point and yet they are specific.\r\n\r\nWe provide technical information on stairs, ramps, guardrail heights and construction that will help to keep your workers safe.\r\n\r\nDepending on the conditions that exist at the pit, we will pinpoint the repairs that should be completed first. This follows the hazard identity pyramid that we all studied that states \u201cidentify and repair or tag out known safety hazards\u201d.\r\n\r\nA second opinion by an expert is a good idea when it comes to worker safety. These pits are loud. Operators have difficult challenges and these guys are tough! They work hard!\r\n\r\nGuarding should be in place. Guardrails have regulations so that they are comfortable and safe and can be relied on. These are minimum safety standards. They are in regulation 854.\r\n\r\nWe can support your repair schedules by returning to the site for re-inspection. This is a really good idea. And it works.\r\n\r\nYour contractor might take advantage of you and do half the job and say it\u2019s good enough. We give them a report card.
