The Conductor Bar

The safe operation of a crane includes that the conductor bar and collectors track properly. Further, expensive repairs may be necessary if collectors are not tracking properly on the conductor bars.
If the collectors are moving laterally by more than 1” (a decent tolerance) then the conductor bars have too much load on them. This will cause further problems such as bent support brackets and bent conductor bars.
A conductor bar is a long length of conductor that supplies electricity to your overhead crane. A typical installation is three runs to supply three phase power. A fourth conductor might be green. This one is for grounding of the crane.
If a conductor bar is bent or not tracking properly then all kinds of issues might occur. The inconsistent supply of current is possible.
This inconsistent supply of current will cause future issues to your hoist.
In some cases we have seen insufficient transformer power leading to premature failure of control components like push button stations and coils that shift contractors.
In other cases we have seen expensive motors arced out due to spikes in power.
Call crane tech if you see a tracking problem before it becomes worse. In many cases we are able to make adjustments to the tracking to save you a fair bit of money.
