Push buttons, Pendants And Remote Controls
Picking up from blog #2 to explain push buttons, pendants and remote controls. Push buttons can be located in a yellow rectangular box hanging about waist high. This is called the pendant, It is attached to the crane by a long pendant cable – a multi wired cord directing the signals made from the push buttons. A Pendant has a separate holding cable called a strain relief. This holding cable relieves the pendant by taking up the weight of the pendant. It helps to preserve wired connections, so they don’t break or short circuit, thereby keeping the operator safe. The operator can easily grab this pendant to operate the crane. There are 7 buttons at this pendant. Up, down – East, West trolley – North, South bridge. The e-stop is located at the top and is used to kill the power to the crane should an uncontrolled event occur – such as a sticky contractor or motor that will not shut off. Similar is the remote control, It has buttons as in a pendant that do the same thing, including an estop button. The differences are in safety. A remote control is much safer because of the mobility of the operator to stay away from the load, improving site lines which also makes moving the loads more controlled and precise.
