Racking Inspections Can Be Simple Or Very Difficult
As I told one of our technicians the other day, racking inspections can be simple – or very difficult. If you have ever seen a rack collapse you will know it makes a heck of a bang! When I witnessed this happen, It was lucky there was nobody was around. If a rack is improperly installed – not level – not anchored – not installed in a straight line then things will start to go wrong. It is common to have concrete conditions that are not level. So the feet of the uprights have to be shimmed accordingly. It is common that racks are not anchored to the floors. This has to be corrected so that the rack is stable. When anchoring, make sure that the anchors are properly installed. Bent cross bracing must be repaired. It is a good idea to add bollards to corners of a rack. That way the corners are not hit by forklift traffic. The shelves must be suitable to the product it must hold. There are many types of shelves to choose from. Racks should be evenly loaded. Do not put large loads up top and none on the lower shelves. Finally, each shelf must have a load rating on it. At Crane Tech we save you money. Using Crane Tech keeps your workers safe.
