Forging means safety for us. A forging is defined as a steel component that is hot worked into a desired shape. In the crane business that means safety in lifting. The metallic structure of a forging has desired features. The lines of the steel follow the desired profile. The metal is “pounded” and not prone to being porous like a casting. One of the desired mechanical properties of the forging is that the metal will bend and not immediately snap when overloaded. So your lifting hooks and shackles and hardware for lifting are forged. The idea is that should the lifting hardware become overloaded, that the hook will bend and not snap off. Of course, nobody should lift over the capacity of the lifting device. This is one of the ways that the manufacturer complies to keep you safe. Reputable brands such as Crosby, Vulcan, Ben mor but to name a few.
