How To Set Limit Switches On A Crane

limit switch, Crane, Crane Safety, Barrie
An electrician called us the other day asking for advice about how to set limit switches on a crane. My reply was that this is something to be done by the Crane Tech experts. Brands such as R&M and Stahl have rotary limit switches, which have 4 settings. S1, S2, S3 and S4. Setting the upper and lower limit of a crane takes patience. I have often noticed that electricians will override the S2 or S3 values and only set an upper and lower limit, but the idea is to slow the load down by at least a 3 second count. Slowing the load down is important to soften up loading on everything – mechanical , electrical, amperage spikes etc. – hoist motors, contractors relays, and all kinds of components will last longer. Think of reducing amperage from 20 amps down to 5 amps. That has to be important – A reduction of 75 percent. Our team works hard to set limits properly and encourage others to not touch the limits. At Crane Tech we save you money. Using Crane Tech keeps your workers safe. We inspect cranes, auto hoists, elevating lift platforms, bridge cranes to name but a few. Remember that the Crane Tech Inspection team can conveniently inspect all of your lifting equipment at the same time. One call for all of your lifting equipment! Call us at 705-734-0012.
