The Importance of Battery Maintenance

scissor lift
Unexpected cold weather brings on challenges for the batteries of the Scissor Lift or Zoom Boom that you rely on each day, which brings the importance of battery maintenance to the forefront. Scissor lifts and Zoom Booms use lead acid due to cost and good performance. It also weighs more and helps balance the machine. Cleaning the terminals the terminals is very important. Apply a dielectric grease or spray, Vaseline, or even a light grease or oil spray can work. The electrolyte (acid) produced is the charge we all need. When levels are low plates are vulnerable to corrosion, batteries heat up and cool down, and electrolyte evaporates. Check the level of the battery.  Add distilled water, which you can purchase easily. Check the voltage when charging with a voltmeter. While charging, the voltage should be around 14 – 15 volts on a 12 volt, around 7-8 volts on a 6 volt (scissors), or around 26 volts for a bank of four 6 volt batteries (scissor). Check the ground terminals for corrosion. They say that 75 percent of electrical problems are caused by the grounds. Maintaining your scissor lift with steps like these can save you hundreds on replacement batteries and keep your lifting device in great working condition. Better than climbing a ladder right?
